7th April
New single 'Run For Me' released 28/4/03 on CD
on Setanta (setcd124).
A song about the generational passing of the baton from
father to son. Written by Hawley, Produced & Mixed by
Hawley & Colin Elliot. Additional mix & production by
Kevin Bacon & Johnathan Quarmby for Manna Productions
(with whom Richard has worked on Finlay Quaye's albums
and more recently on a track by Reno with vocals from
the legendary Nancy Sinatra)). (Taken from the album
'Lowedges' on Setanta Records SETCD110)
The single also features two other recordings. 'Troublesome
Water' : Written by Rippetoe. Originally recorded
by Howard Seratt about whom there is very little known.
The facts are that he recorded one single for Sun record's
sometime in the early fifties called "Troublesome
Waters". Sam Phillips didn't see any point in recording
more because gospel of any kind (this being very gentle
sort of rural white mountain gospel) didn't sell so
Howard dropped out of sight very quickly.
Hawley's Dad bought an obscure compilation in the 60's
that had all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff on it,
and in amongst this was this beautiful jewel of a song.
He grew up hearing his parents sing it and learned it
from being very young, although he's not religious in
any way, the song has a deep spiritual side that anyone
with or without a faith can relate to and he thought
that now was as good a time as any to share it with
anyone who'd care to listen. (exclusive to this single)
Track 3 is 'Aran Loop', A big Hawley penned hawaian
lap steel instrumental. (exclusive to this single).
