Any band that can harness pop delights of the whole Top 40, ravage it with the discord of a dozen Fall albums and still come out on top is one to cherish. With her Norwich indie-gal charm, Nikki Colk yelps as she bashes out simple chords. Dave Lake does away with chords altogether, bursting energy as his guitar chirps and chimes its Sonic Youth sound.
Even better are the bucketful of new songs. by simmering their trademark kitsch and dallying with tougher stuff, Kaito deliver their finest material yet. It's still barking mad and as contagious as scabies, but the raw edge on newbies such as 'Mickey' and 'Reminder' give the band's full-on punk funk rhythms a darker element. Meaty Joy.
